The music program at Broward College is a world-class accredited institution for musical creativity, performance, and education. Outstanding faculty, excellent facilities, a stunning concert hall, and a music technology center have been a home for aspiring musicians for over fifty years.

Broward College publishes its Mission and Vision statements in the College Catalog. The music program emphasizes similar aspirations with the mission to foster the art of music by providing a comprehensive program of study that adheres to the highest academic and artistic standards.
The music unit achieves academic and artistic excellence by:
New music majors must seek advising from the music program on Central Campus and set up an audition. They are expected to have some performing skill and will be placed in pre-principal (preparatory) or principal (college level) lessons, music theory and ensemble courses.

Broward College is home to many performing groups with celebrated traditions. In addition to serving music majors, they also welcome non-majors and community volunteers. Broward Symphony Orchestra, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band and Choral Society are staples of local music scene, while chamber and jazz combo ensembles provide more individualized performance opportunities. In addition to General Education courses, music faculty recommend a four-semester sequence of Music Theory, Ear Training, Ensemble, Secondary Piano and Applied Lesson classes, as well as a two-semester sequence of Music History. For further guidance, please visit the music office.
The Associate of Science degree consists of 64 credits of Music Technology, Music and General Education courses.

Music scholarships are awarded for academic and musical excellence, as well as for participation in advanced ensembles. Candidates are recommended by full-time faculty.
We encourage all Broward College students to apply for Financial Aid. Recipients must meet the following criteria:
New Music Students
New music students may enroll as either non-majors or majors. Music majors must audition and enroll in a full schedule of classes. Major classes are offered on Central Campus only.
Evaluation
Music students must abide by the college’s academic standards of progress, as well as participate in instrumental juries, area forums and student recitals.
Practice Rooms
Students enrolled in applied lessons may use practice rooms by obtaining an access card from the music office. Most practice rooms have a piano, and one has a drum set.
Hours: Mon-Thurs 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m., Fri 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Sat 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Library Materials
The University/College Library has a collection of music books, eBooks and periodicals. An extensive audio, video and music score collection Music Online by Alexander Street Press can be accessed from the library's website.
Vocal Studies Language Requirement
During their studies, voice students must take a course in French, German or Italian language.
Copyright Statement
Students must purchase original scores of works studied. Students, faculty & staff assume all costs arising from the use of patented, trademarked, franchised or copyrighted non-dramatic music, materials, devices, processes or intellectual properties used or incorporated in the event. Performers indemnify, defend and hold harmless Broward College from any claims or costs, including legal fees, which might arise from question of use of any such material described above. This policy shall be in force on all Broward College campuses or at Broward College sanctioned events performed off-campus.
Health Statement
Prolonged exposure to high-volume sound can be detrimental to aural health. Even though Broward College facilities comply with OSHA standards, individual student activity may exceed acceptable levels of noise. Hearing is musician’s greatest treasure- treat it well! Singing or playing any musical instrument can lead to musculoskeletal and neurological injuries, especially if used incorrectly. Please discuss any pain or fatigue with your applied instructor.
