Testing Requirements and Guidelines

The following guidelines must be adhered to before, during, or after taking a test administered by a Testing and Assessment Center at Broward College (BC). These guidelines also apply to BC students taking tests at other institutions or remotely.

When testing remotely, a student's computer audio and video inputs are required to be active and on during the entire test session regardless of the test and/or proctoring platform being used. Failure to maintain audio or video during the entire test may result in invalidation of the testing session. If scores are invalidated, students will be required to retest and will incur the retesting fee.

Testing Guidelines

Test takers must refrain from the following:

  • Communicating with others, other than testing personnel, while taking a test, including giving or receiving assistance from other examinees.
  • Removing or attempting to remove a test book, a test question, or a portion of a test in any way or format from the testing room.
  • Removing scratch paper from the Testing and Assessment Center. All scratch paper is collected at the end of testing for all tests with no exceptions.
  • Circulating, reproducing, or otherwise obtaining advance access to test materials prior to, during, and after taking a test.
  • Submitting another person's work as your own includes taking or attempting to take a test for another person.
  • Falsifying information, forging signatures, and/or presenting false identification, or falsifying information on any of the following: official document, grade report, authorization letter, transcript, test scores or any other type of document.
  • Using or possessing books, notes/papers of any kind, calculators, watches, mechanical pencils, earplugs, hats, headsets, rulers, listening or music devices (including Bluetooth), paging devices (beepers), cellular and smartphones, tablets, recording or photographic devices, and other aids, unless previously authorized.
  • All beverages (including water bottles) and food items
  • Briefcases, purses, handbags, backpacks, and bags of any kind
  • Creating a disturbance or engaging in any disruptive behavior.
  • Attempting to bribe a member of the Testing Center staff to obtain a copy of a test or test-related information.
  • Attempting to tamper with a computer or any equipment in the Testing Center.
  • Opening an unauthorized browser/window or application during a test administration. This includes visiting a non-authorized website.
  • Refusing to adhere to instructions given by a Testing Center staff member.
  • Failing to follow directions issued by a staff member of the Testing Center, including reading or working on a test or test section during a time not authorized.
  • Tobacco or tobacco products (in any form), alcoholic beverages, illicit drugs, and any other substance, including e-cigarette devices and paraphernalia of any kind as per College Policy 6Hx2-7.21 (PDF) Broward College is a Tobacco-Free Institution!
  • Bringing firearms or weapons of any kind inside the Testing Center as per State and College Policy 6Hx2-5.38 (PDF).

Individuals who exhibit any of the above-mentioned behaviors will be subject to appropriate action as specified in the College's Code of Conduct of BC's Students' Rights and Responsibilities handbook. Incidents will be reported to the appropriate administrator at the College for review and to the department or agency that is associated with the testing program.

Please be advised, computer screens are monitored and testing sessions are video recorded via surveillance cameras. Other detection devices may also be used.

Prohibited Items While Testing

The following items are prohibited while taking a test administered by the Testing and Assessment Centers at Broward College (BC) and by BC students taking tests at other institutions. In addition to the following items, the College reserves the right to exclude other items as appropriate. These are the minimum standards that BC adheres to for test security purposes. Additional standards may apply depending on the test vendor/sponsor.

  • Books, dictionaries, and notes/papers of any kind, unless previously authorized
  • Language translators and spell checkers
  • Calculators, unless previously authorized
  • Watches and timers of any kind
  • Mechanical pencils, mechanical erasers, and erasers with sleeves
  • Highlighters, ink pens, felt-tip markers, colored pens or pencils, and correction fluid/tape
  • Earplugs, earmuffs, and headphones of any kind
  • Hats and other head coverings, except those for religious purposes (must match acceptable ID used)
  • Rulers
  • Sunglasses and any reading/sunglass cases and sleeves
  • Listening devices (including Bluetooth)
  • Cellular phones and paging devices (beepers)
  • Electronic tablets and personal computers
  • Recording or photographic devices and other aids
  • Any electronic device not listed above must be shown to the proctor and will be subject to inspection and approval
  • Tobacco or tobacco products (in any form), alcoholic beverages, illicit drugs, and any other substance, including e-cigarette devices and paraphernalia of any kind as per College Policy 6Hx2-7.21 (PDF) - Broward College is a Tobacco-Free Institution

  • All beverages (including water bottles)
  • Briefcases, purses, handbags, backpacks, and bags of any kind

Please Note:

The use of any medical device, such as an asthma inhaler or insulin pump, within the examination room will be inspected by the testing center staff prior to entering the testing room.
Any item not allowed in the testing room must be stored inside a locker, or kept in a designated area until the end of the testing session. Weapons cannot be stored inside a testing locker.
The Testing and Assessment Centers are not responsible for items left in a testing locker.

Acceptable Forms of Identification

All students (including high school students testing for post-secondary readiness, dual enrollment, or other purposes) must have active Broward College (BC) student identification (ID) numbers and present one form of current/valid/physical identification (ID) prior to taking any examination (see below).

Test candidates and students from other institutions utilizing one of BC's Testing and Assessment Centers for proctoring services are not required to have a BC student ID to test; however, they must present one of the forms of ID listed below unless otherwise specified by the testing agency (such as Pearson VUE, FAA, CLEP, DSST, etc.) or outside institution.

  • All forms of identification must be:
    • Original physical document (Pictures of a physical identification will not be accepted)
    • Current and not expired
    • Valid (meaning the correct type of ID)
  • The ID used must match the name in BC's record system, documentation from authorizing testing institution or agency, or on the testing voucher, referral, or appointment.
  • All test sessions are monitored and recorded.
  • The Testing and Assessment Centers reserve the right to photograph any student taking any examination.
  • Students must present one form of identification which must be a current/valid/physical official picture ID from the list below:
    • Driver's License issued by the United States
    • Official Florida ID
    • U.S. Passport, U.S. Passport Card, or Permanent Resident Card
    • Foreign passport with U.S. visa
    • Military ID
    • Tribal ID
    • * Broward College Student ID may be acceptable as a primary ID for some tests
  • A second form of ID may be requested. This second ID must have the student's name with signature or a picture (e.g. BC ID, school ID, library card, social security card, voter registration card, credit/debit card, or other official ID bearing the student's name and signature).
  • High school graduates cannot use their school ID after the BCPS Last Day of School.
  • High school students testing for post-secondary readiness, dual enrollment, or other purposes must present a current/valid/physical official picture ID from the first list above or another approved ID from the list below:
    • High School School ID Card
    • Permanent Resident Card
    • Notarized Secondary Level Alternate Student ID Form with picture.
