Begin a new career in healthcare! This introductory short-term course offers a sequence of topics essential for a career in healthcare. The content aligns with relevant skills and technical knowledge needed and contains competency-based learning activities that contribute to higher reasoning and problem-solving. Description: This course prepares students to perform EKGs and includes basic anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, emergencies related to cardiac testing: syncope, chest pain, and abnormal vitals. Students will also learn about arrhythmias, calculating heart rates, and types of ECGs. Additionally, students will practice with EKG equipment and perform hands on skills including introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be prepared to take the Certified EKG Technician (CET) exam.
