To apply for the Broward Futures scholarship and be considered, the applicant must meet the eligibility criteria in each of the categories below and submit the Broward Futures application.

Eligibility Criteria

A student must meet one or more of the following factors:

  • Successfully complete a prevention/treatment or otherwise eligible youth mentoring program
  • Lives with guardian or foster parent
  • Lives with relative (non-parent)
  • Lives with a teen parent (at the time of birth)
  • Lives with parent with limited English proficiency
  • Homeless or lives in a shelter
  • Lives with single parent (Divorced/widowed)
  • Has a parent or sibling who is criminally involved in the criminal justice system
  • Displays behavioral issues as identified by interventions in schools or communities
  • Parent with a dependent child
  • First Generation in College
  • Youth involved in the criminal justice system or any civil citation program

The scholarship shall be awarded based on verifiable financial need as determined after the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is also used to determine eligibility for other Federal, State, and Institutional grants.

The applicant must have obtained any one of the following to qualify for admission to Broward College degree program:

  • High School diploma or certificate with overall 2.0 GPA or High School equivalent diploma such as GED

  • Applicant must apply and been accepted for admission to Broward College in a degree program eligible for Financial Aid
  • Begin their studies at Broward College on or before their 22nd birthday

The applicant must provide a certificate of completion of a youth mentoring or otherwise eligible program operated by an organization listed below:

  • Best Buddies Florida
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward
  • Boys and Girls Club
  • Broward Sherriff’s Office – Explorer Program
  • Broward Sherriff’s Office Youth programs
  • Communities in Schools
  • Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
  • HANDY
  • Jewish Adoption and Foster Care Options (JAFCO)
  • Links of Broward Incorporated
  • Marine Cadet Program
  • New Day Community Justice Program
  • PACE Center for Girls
  • Police Athletic League
  • SOS Children's Villages
  • Take Stock in Children
  • Urban Teacher Academy Program
  • Broward County Schools’ Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders
  • 100 Black Men
  • Urban League of Broward County’s iFuture Youth Leadership program
